The McLean High School Theatre Arts program is the award-winning program of student theatre at McLean High School in McLean, Virginia.
Recent theatrical productions include "The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan," the original one-act "Kurdt," and the musical "Into the Woods." An innovative new feature of the program is the "McLean Fringe Festival," featuring student-produced short plays, films and musical performances.
Students have participated in the "Text Alive!" theatre program through the Shakespeare Theatre Company of Washington D.C., and in 2011, McLean High School was named Liberty District Champions in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) One-Act Play Competition. In recent years, McLean High School students have earned over forty-five nominations, and won almost twenty awards (including Best Play) from the Cappies, "Critics and Awards Program."
McLean High School students have performed at such prestigious venues as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts and the Folger Shakespeare Theater. They performed at the Illinois State Society Inaugural Ball in January 2009. One of the most significant recent honors the programhas received wasan invitation to participate in the American High School Theater Festivalat the internationally-acclaimed Fringe Festival in Edinburgh Scotland in August 2009.Forty-three schools in the United States were selected to participate, with McLean being the only school from Northern Virginia. The McLean High School TheatreBoosters, Inc. is a non profitcorporation organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia andapproved by the IRS as a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization.
The McLean Theatre Boosters is a parent-run group with the dual aims of raising funds for, and providing technical, logistical and organizational support to, the McLean High School Theatre Arts and Technical Theatre programs. We build sets, supply costumes and props, run the concession stand during performances, act as chaperones, organize trips, provide awards and scholarships, and countless other tasks small and large, in support of the students and teachers.
